Situated amongst a streetscape of traditional Victorian houses, this Port Melbourne extension bridges the gap between heritage dwelling and contemporary living. Our client had been seduced by the period charm of the existing property and looked to Pitch to help create a modern space concealed behind the traditional façade. Carefully placed skylights direct natural light into a corridor of concealed doors, behind which intact period rooms hide. A new rear addition reinterprets the cosiness of a period home in a contemporary manner. The double-sided kitchen spills onto an outdoor breakfast bench with inbuilt timber joinery, offering a cosy spot to sit or work. Careful details, light and dark tones, and timber elements frame an open view to a leafy back garden.
