Kooyong Residence is a mid-century inspired heritage extension for a family of four in the heart of Kooyong, 10km east of Melbourne CBD.

The extension pays tribute to the original interwar bungalow by creating distance and contrast with it's architectural form and approach.

The double pitch roof form is influenced by the gable roof of the original structure but modified to respond to the elevated built form to the rear of the site. A bridge is introduced to join the two contrasting form whilst allowing 2 courtyards to be inserted into the built form that maximise the natural light into the interior spaces.

As the topography descends towards the back, a lower storey is created to increase the additional indoor and outdoor spaces and provide more convenient access to the backyard.
